Current Projects:
Girl Scout Project
Alpha Nu Chapter of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International has recently entered into a partnership
with a local Girl Scout Troop. Troop #10742 is
comprised of 20 special-needs young ladies ranging in
age from 10 years to 30 years old. Alpha Nu will be
collaborating with troop leaders to provide support for projects and activities designed to enhance the girls' cultural and educational experiences.
Our chapter was inspired to participate in this project after hearing of the success a Texas DKG chapter had with a similar project at the recent Southeast Regional Conference in Savannah, Georgia. We plan to adapt the curriculum established by the Texan chapter whereby the girls can earn a council patch related to DKG. Alpha Nu Chapter will correlate the Texan curriculum with the fifteen National Girl Scout Leadership Experience Outcomes.
Alpha Nu Chapter was recently awarded a North Carolina DKG Educational Foundation Learning/Literacy Project Grant which helped to fund a special learning project for the troop. A local artist provided an art class for the girls where they learned basic painting techniques resulting in a finished picture the girls were able to take home to their families. Members of Alpha Nu Chapter also attended the class to provide assistance. The girls earned their Girl Scout Painting Badge.
